How Does The Bible View Homosexuality: Is It Acceptable?

Recently, I have seen several movies that says a lot about adultery and homosexuality. Seems like the world we live in is very much okay with it. It really bothers me especially for the next generation that will be inheriting our practices regardless of culture, race or religious denominations.

Every time I turn to online news or watch news on the television, there’s always a thing that sparks the anger of many. Should it be because they felt that something is unfair or they felt that something isn’t right. Well, not all of us may be aware of this but media corrupts the minds and hearts of many. Why is it that when people talks about God or shares the good news on television or in the papers, they were mocked and called insane. Why is that? Because we don’t want to hear the truth. We only want to hear what we think will make us belong to what this world calls “fad”or “normal”.

Homosexuality is deemed as normal to many. Advocates of this group would even kill if possible just to protect the rights of these people who comes out as gays. They cry out injustice whenever someone objects to the marriage ruling that supports gay marriage. I, for one, is against gay marriage. I still believe in the sanctity of marriage. In the book of Genesis 5:2 “He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind” when they were created“. It is clear that a man was created to be united with a woman and not with a man. Genesis 2:24 says “,That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” It is evident that the Bible contradicts the union of people with the same gender. Then why are we saying that they also have their “rights”, the rights to marry when we all know that they are of the same gender?

As a human being, everyone is entitled to their rights. Even the unborn child in a woman’s womb is entitled to his right to live. But what if these rights that we were trying to fight for is contrary to what God believes is acceptable? Are we greater than God?

Why Did God Destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah? (Genesis 18:16-19:29)

Sodom and Gomorrah are two ancient cities. The Bible illustrates how God sent angels to observe the two cities. They disguised themselves as visitors testing the hospitality of the inhabitants of the two wicked cities.

Lot, who was Abraham’s nephew lives in Sodom. The Lord warns Abraham that he was going to annihilate and completely destroy the cities because of its wickedness. Lot met the two angels at the city gate and took them home with him and fed them.

When the two angels arrived at Lot’s house, the men from the cities surrounded Lot’s house and demanded that the two men shall be given to them and said, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” (Genesis 19:5). Because the visitors were under Lot’s protection, Lot even offered his two virgin daughters for the men to take in order to spare the two visiting angels but the men refused and tried to break the door. The angels then struck the men blind and led Lot’s family out of the city to spare them from God’s wrath.

In order to spare the cities from God’s wrath, Abraham made an agreement with God. If ever he would find even a few righteous people that lives there, the Lord will spare the cities but unfortunately, all the inhabitants of those cities were depraved and not even a single righteous person lives there so the Lord rained down fire and sulfur that completely destroyed the entire cities and its inhabitants.

That is where the word “Sodomy” comes from. It means “sin of Sodom” and is also referred to as “copulation with a member of the same sex“.

Then why God destroyed the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah? Because of the sin of committing homosexual relations and copulating with the same gender.

You can find a handful of verses in the Bible that clearly says why homosexuality is wrong. In Leviticus 18:22 says, “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable (abomination). The book of Romans in the New Testament also condemns homosexual relations. Romans 1: 24;26-27 says, “Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way, the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”

The Consequences of Homosexual Marriage

Even many of today’s modern Christians conforms with what the majority of the people around the world who believes that we have to leave the homosexuals alone and even supports gay rights to marrying their partners of the same sex? how cool is that? – NOT! The Bible in the book of Romans 12:2 declares “Don’t copy (conform) the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” but it seems like we are too overjoyed whenever we hear about people coming out as gays and being proud of their partners, their rights to marry, etc., etc… We are not condemning anyone just because we don’t believe that gay marriage should be legalized. We were taught to condemn the sin but not the sinner. This is somewhat confusing though since the sin cannot be committed without the participating individuals.

How can we demonstrate love to them since we defy homosexual behaviors that is the very reason why the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed? By edifying them and teaching them that these behaviors is abominable to our Creator and not judging them harshly and thinking that we are better than them. Christ died for them also, for all of us to be exact! God loves all of us though we are so unworthy of it. Remember the man who died on the cross 2,000 years ago? He died for our sins. The nails and the cross are the perfect reminders why we have to edify and encourage one another about the Word of God. Homosexuality is a lie that Satan is trying to inject in all of us. He was trying to tell us that it is completely acceptable when the truth is it is NOT! It is only God who can heal the bondage of homosexuality. He calls us for repentance so that we may be healed of everything may it be homosexuality, depression, illness and everything else that seems incurable to us. All we have to do is to respond to his call with a willing heart.

Each one of us has our own battles that we are facing daily. One of our greatest enemy is our flesh. We often conform to what people these days consider as normal. At this age, when you reach legal age and is still a virgin, you are often called as naive or out of this world. You become a laughingstock among your peers because that is what they read in books or seen in television that having sex (regardless if its homosexual actions or not) outside marriage is totally acceptable and FUN, that you have also to indulge in it so that you will also belong to the norm. Even young Christians were convinced that we can just ask “forgiveness” later every time we commit sin against our bodies. Should we really test the patience and the grace of God in order to do what we desire with our bodies?
